Structured Approach for a Growth Mindset
Middle School at Vidya Vihar International School (Grade 6 to 8) marks an essential transition period, guiding students from preparatory learning to the more specialized and advanced study required in high school. During these formative years, students are encouraged to think independently, explore new ideas, and develop skills that will equip them for future academic and personal challenges.
The Middle School Programme is designed to nurture creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning, while also fostering character-building and social responsibility.
The academic programme at the Middle School level emphasizes a deeper and broader understanding of subjects, allowing students to expand their knowledge and skills.
Key subjects include:
Mathematics: Building on concepts like algebra, geometry, and data analysis while developing logical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
Science: Comprehensive study of physics, chemistry, biology, and environmental science, fostering scientific inquiry and hands-on experiments.
Languages: Advanced studies in English (first language and medium of instruction), Kannada (second language), and Hindi (third language), with a focus on enhancing language skills, literature appreciation, and creative writing.
Social Studies: A detailed exploration of history, geography, civics, and economics, helping students understand the past, present, and future of societies and governance.
ICT (Information and Communication Technology): Introduction to coding, programming, and digital literacy, enabling students to navigate the digital world effectively.
Academics are complemented by project-based learning, inquiry-driven lessons, and real-world applications, encouraging students to apply their knowledge beyond the classroom.
The curriculum at Middle Stage focuses on providing a holistic and well-rounded education.
Key features of the curriculum include:
Interdisciplinary Learning: Subjects are taught through integrated projects and themes, enabling students to make connections between different domains of knowledge.
Experiential and Inquiry-Based Learning: Emphasizing learning by doing, students are encouraged to explore concepts through hands-on projects and research, fostering curiosity and independent thinking.
Skill Development: The curriculum is designed to build essential 21st-century skills such as collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity.
Values and Life Skills Education: Personal development, empathy, social skills, and emotional intelligence are incorporated into daily learning to create socially responsible individuals.
Recognizing the importance of skill development in today’s fast-paced and evolving world, Vidya Vihar International School has introduced a comprehensive Skill Development Programme (SDP) at our SparkLabs for Middle School students. Key areas of focus include:
Formative Assessments:
Conducted regularly through observations, quizzes, class discussions, interactive activities, and peer feedback. These emphasize continuous assessment to support learning progress and provide timely feedback.
Summative Assessments:
Students in these classes will have three assessments during the academic year. The report will be sent to parents at the end of the academic year along with grades for scholastic and co-scholastic performance.
These assessment methods ensure that every child’s progress is measured in a comprehensive, fair, and constructive manner, promoting lifelong learning and growth.
